Baccali's Cafe & Rotisserie

Before I venture off, I had to test my brother's camera because I'll be using it due to the film option, which I don't have with mine. It works alright with some post production!

245 W Valley Blvd Alhambra, CA 91801 between Garfield and Atlantic. There is a private parking lot, but it gets crowded during dinner time. The security guard there likes to stand around and play with his phone.
I dislike options, or too many options. The menu ranged from Chinese dishes to Malaysian to American. If your friends can't decide what to eat, and don't want to spend too much money, Baccali's is a good option.
I think this is House Chow Mein. I don't know my noodles. I am so used to Panda Express chow mein so I compare everything to that. Delicious either way.

No one actually eats the entire dish right? We share!

Thanks to Peter (who never reads this blog) for introducing me to this dish: Indonesia Fried Rice. You get the fried rice with a fried egg, Asian crackers, and beef and chicken kebabs with sauce on the side. $8.99!

Free refills on most drinks, like thai iced tea for $2.75

Not Asian looking at all, except the people.

Let's go to Puerto Rico!

I'm really awful at posting images of any of my travels. That's probably why instagram is so effective because you can just shoot, edit, and send it off to the internet. When I go anywhere, there's some sort of pre planning involved, and then the actual trip, and by the time I fly back home, I'm exhausted. The thought of looking through 567 images, editing, and captioning them isn't the first thing I want to do. But what sucks is that I then forget the little details of each image, like where I shot it, and the name of the stranger posing in the photo with me. And then it made me realize that if I didn't share the images, what was the point in taking them? It's fascinating because really, we take all these images and end up only using less than 10% of them, or I do. Really, if I only had one image from any trip, I'll be very happy with it. Now, this topic of "synthetic happiness" reminds me of the TED talk I watched today.

Puerto Rico was the most unique trip I'll ever have. Let me give you a list of things we should have not done but did anyway.

DON'T
- let a stranger in your car
- let 2 strangers, especially men, in your car
- give your email or phone number to a stranger
- talk to a shirtless stranger at 4am at the beach with no one around

I think the main takeaway is that we talked to strangers during our trip, which was what made the trip so special. These strangers weren't strange to Puerto Rico (except the 2 men), they're locals and they know more than what's in the guidebook. The trip was enriching and thrilling thanks to our curiosity. Of course, we wouldn't have done so if we felt any danger! Always travel with caution, use your instincts, and remember that kind people do exist outside your hometown.

We left MIA with shots of whiskey, and landed in San Juan with shots of delicious rum

NYC experience in a pistachio shell

When I got back, it felt like it didn't happen. Those 13 months in NYC, proclaimed by many as the greatest city in the world, did happen. Here are some things I can't believe I did. I am so grateful for the experience.

- Entered the offices of Seventeen Magazine, Interview Magazine, People Magazine, Martha Stewart publications, Men's Fitness Magazine, Cole Haan, Frye
- Met Anderson Cooper (twice!)
- Lived on the upper upper upper west side
- Entered Uniqlo's "employees only" door
- Assisted Under the Radar's Yeasayer cover shoot in Brooklyn
- Adopted a kitten for 4 days
- Befriended a mouse in the apartment
- Watched Bill Cunningham do his thing
- Woke up at 3am to see Backstreet Boys perform at Central Park
- Semi experienced Hurricane Sandy
- Took the subway at every time imaginable
- Befriended and worked with Christopher Lane
- Went backstage at Terminal 5

Let's Go to Da House Hotel!

I took an impulsive trip to Puerto Rico a few weeks ago, and I'll never forget it. How can I when it was literally days after Hurricane Sandy hit and a few hours before Barack Obama won the 2012 Presidential Election. And toss Halloween and a long day trip in DC too. But that's another post!

We were on a tight budget, and that worked in our favor. We stayed at the artful Da House Hotel (I still don't know how it's pronounced, so I'll keep to saying da house, like da car and da boyz). It was at the heart of Old San Juan, within walking distance of everything in this charming city. And you can't beat $80 a night for a beautiful room.

Da House isn't for the older folks. It's literally next to a night club/bar/restaurant, so you'll hear music until 4am. And it is loud! But we were always too tired by the time we got back to even be bothered by the noise. You can read more reviews on yelp and tripadvisor.
